Just yesterday, Min Yoongi from BTS, also known as Suga or August D, finished his “Suga Agust D Tour” in Seoul. Today we learn that it was his last concert for a long time. The superstar is officially preparing for his military service. The announcement stirred up a mix of emotions among fans.
BigHit Music, BTS's label, has officially confirmed Suga's upcoming enlistment in a statement:
“We would like to inform our fans that Suga has started the process of enlisting in the military by applying to end his deferred enlistment.
We will inform you of further updates in due course.”
Finally, Big Hit asks the fans to keep loving and supporting Suga until he returns. Of course, the fans will wait patiently for their idol, but of course the news also caused a wave of regret. After all, they won't be able to see Suga for at least 18 months.
Suga, who also performs as a solo artist under the name Agust D, has achieved remarkable success in his musical career.
His music, which often deals with personal themes and emotions, has won a broad following both in South Korea and internationally. Which of his solo songs do you like best?
Suga will soon be the third member of BTS in the military:
In South Korea, military service is a legal obligation for all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28. The duration of service is usually around 18 to 21 months.
In recent years, there have been heated discussions about whether BTS should receive an exception because of their contributions to Korea's economy, but in the end it was decided that they should serve like everyone else. However, the members already stressed during the discussions that they don't want any special treatment and are proud to fulfill their duty.
The oldest, Jin, began his service at the end of 2022 and J-Hope followed him in April 2023.
So Suga is the third member of BTS to go into the military. And the others will follow one after another too. But not right away!
Recently, rumors persistently circulated that RM would be next soon, among other reasons because he shaved his hair short. At Suga's last concert, however, RM explained that the haircut has nothing to do with military service and that he won't be saying goodbye so soon.
He and the others - Jungkook, Jimin and V - will hopefully stay with us for a while yet!
