These are the youngest K-Pop idols! Younger than ever before! (Update 2025)

Anyone who wants to become a K-Pop idol usually has to start early to have a chance at a debut. In general, idols now debut between the ages of 15 and 21, but even younger K-Pop stars are no longer an exception. We ask ourselves the question: Are they getting younger and younger?

The K-Pop industry is known for training young talents sometimes as children so that they receive comprehensive training in various areas such as singing and dancing by the time of their debut. When the boys and girls finally make their debut, they are still very young, sometimes even under 16 years old! This increasingly causes criticism among fans. They still fear that idols are becoming younger and younger. The criticism is of course justified, as the young stars have to deal with a lot of pressure and criticism.

Are K-pop idols making their debut younger than ever?

These are the youngest K-Pop idols!

The following list contains all idols who debuted younger than 16. It begins in the year 2000 with Boa and ends with the boy band AxMxP, who released their first album on September 10, 2025.

Please note that this list may not be complete. We have made an effort to be as accurate as possible in our research, but of course it is possible that we have overlooked someone. The following findings are based on the present list.

In our last article, we introduced you to a number of idols aged 13 to 15 who debuted by 2022. As you can see, their number has increased significantly since then: From 2008 to 2022, that is within 14 years, about 34 of these young idols made their debut. In the past 3 years, just as many have been added again - and the year 2025 is not even over yet!

This increase is also clearly visible when we look at the individual years: Until 2021, only 1-4 such young idols appeared each year. Since 2022, there have been 9-12 per year, with the exception of 2024. In this year, we have only counted 5 under-16-year-olds, 4 of whom are members of the project group UNIS. The record year so far is 2023, because at that time 17 idols debuted who were 15 or younger. These included, among others, members of FANTASY BOYS, BABYMONSTER, and tripleS.

Many idol groups debut today with 2 or more members under 16 years old:

This was followed by Cherry Bullet in 2019 and CLASS:y in 2022. 2023 is also the record year here: as many as 6 groups had 2 or more members who were 15 or younger, such as YOUNG POSSE. In the last two years, the number decreased again. In 2024, the girl group UNIS debuted, followed by Hearts2Hearts and HITGS in 2025.

Of course, there are still many groups whose members are all 16 or older at debut, such as 1Verse (2025), or ASC2NT (2024) or NOWZ (2024). The fact that the number of 13 to 15-year-olds has increased so much could be due, among other things, to the fact that many more idols debut annually than before.

Getting younger: Which idol currently holds the record?

In our last article, we suspected that BoA's record would soon no longer be a rarity, and it took less than 3 years to confirm this. We can only hope that the number does not continue to rise and perhaps decreases again over the years. After all, it is already difficult for adult idols to find their way in the K-pop industry.

Are K-pop idols making their debut younger than ever?

Meanwhile, we would answer the question with "Yes":

The number of idols under 16 years old has almost doubled in recent years. As already mentioned, this could be partly because generally many more idols debut each year. Additionally, the minimum age keeps decreasing, as we can see from the fact that BoA's long-standing record has been broken several times in the last 4 years. Furthermore, there are more and more groups where half of the members are 15 or younger. Such young idols are therefore no longer an exception.

This development will certainly increasingly provoke harsh criticism, after all many fans have regularly expressed concerns before. They rightly doubt whether a debut at such a young age brings more opportunities or more risks in the long term. What do you think about it?
