BIOGRAPHY

Huening Kai (휴닝카이) is a South Korean-American singer, songwriter and producer. He is a member of the boy band TXT which debuted in March 2019 under Big Hit Entertainment.

Huening Kai was born on August 14, 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. He is known for his diverse talents, including singing, piano and guitar. Before his debut, he studied at Hanlim Arts High School in Seoul.

His father, Nabil David Huening, was an actor and singer active in Chinese media until the late 2000s. Huening Kai lived in Beijing, China until 2009 before moving to South Korea. He is fluent in Korean, English and has a basic knowledge of Chinese.

Huening Kai attended middle school in Korea and asked his teacher for permission to form a school band. He was the band's drummer and frontman. In middle school, he competed in the school's singing competition, where he took second place two years in a row. Together with his older sister Lea, Huening Kai also took part in numerous auditions as a brother-sister duo. However, they were not accepted by any agency until an employee of one of the last agencies he auditioned for later moved to Big Hit Entertainment and remembered Huening Kai. It was this employee who ultimately cast him, and Huening Kai became a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment in June 2016.

Huening Kai enrolled at the Hanlim Arts School in Seoul, a renowned school with a high number of trainees and idol students, and chose to major in dance.

“TOMORROW X TOGETHER”, or “TXT” for short, are considered one of the first boy groups of the 4th generation and have left a distinctive mark on the K-pop industry with a discography spanning a wide range of genres such as synth-pop, disco, hip-hop, punk and hybrid rock. They are known for their fantastic concepts that pay homage to a variety of films/animations/fairy tales such as Harry Potter, Peter Pan, The Little Prince and others. They attach great importance to the narrative element of their discography - their albums have the words “chapters”, “scenes” and “minisodes” in the title and are reminiscent of stage dramas. TXT's most famous hits include "Blue Hour", "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)", "Sugar Rush Ride" and "Chasing That Feeling". Here are some of their greatest achievements:

• 2019: Just 8 days after their debut, TXT won their first music show (The Show), setting a new record for rookie groups.
• 2019: The debut mini album “The Dream Chapter: Star” sold over 120,000 copies in its first week in South Korea, also setting a record for a rookie group.
• 2019: The music video for "Crown" was viewed more than 15 million times within the first 24 hours, setting a record for a rookie group.
• 2020: TXT's "The Dream Chapter: Eternity" debuted at number 25 on the "Billboard 200", reaching its highest position on the charts at the time.
• 2020: The title track "Blue Hour" became their first song in Spotify's "Global Top 200", highlighting TXT's international popularity.
• 2021: “The Chaos Chapter: Freeze” was named one of the “Best Albums of 2021” by TIME magazine, underscoring its cultural significance.
• 2022: TXT became the fastest fourth-generation K-pop group to reach 10 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel in December 2022.
• 2022: TXT became the first K-pop group to headline Lollapalooza, performing a 90-minute performance to close the festival.
• 2023: The album “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION” took first place on the “Billboard 200” charts.
• 2023: In 2023, TXT received the “Album Bonsang” (Grand Prize) for “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION” at the Golden Disc Awards.
• 2024: “Minisode 3: TOMORROW”, takes third place on the “Billboard 200”.
• 2024: TXT completed a highly successful world tour, attracting over 140,000 attendees in the United States alone. They were the first K-pop group to hold two sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden, a venue that has hosted legendary artists.

Huening Kai is the youngest member of TXT.

With his debut, he attracted a lot of attention for his appearance, which combines both Caucasian and East Asian features. He is the first American artist to debut under Big Hit Entertainment.

Huening Kai is widely praised for his singing skills. He has a wide vocal range and mostly sings the choruses and high notes in TXT's songs. He also takes on some rap parts together with Yeonjun. Heuning Kai is the second largest member of TXT and is also considered one of the group's most talented dancers.

All three Huening siblings are celebrities. His older sister, Lea, debuted as a member of the girl group Viva, which is no longer active. Lea took part in the survival show "Time Turner" in November 2024, where she came in 5th place. She will soon debut together with the other winners in the new girl group "I.MET.U". His younger sister, Bahiyyih, debuted in 2022 as a member of the girl group “Kep1er”. The three siblings also have fun doing TikTok dance challenges together to their new songs.

He also has a charming and versatile personality that makes him extremely entertaining in a variety of content. Huening Kai is an invaluable member of TXT and deserves more recognition for his exceptional talent and hard work.
