Jennie Kim (김제니), born January 16, 1996 in Bundang, Seongnam, South Korea, is a singer, rapper and model. She grew up as an only child and began her education at Cheongdam Elementary School in Seoul. At the age of eight, Jennie traveled to New Zealand with her family. Her mother asked her if she wanted to stay there and Jennie replied yes. A year later she moved to Auckland and attended Waikowhai Intermediate School while living with a host family. She later studied at ACG Parnell College, where she learned English and experienced life abroad.

During her time in New Zealand, Jennie dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer, but later decided to pursue a career in music. At 15, she prepared to study in the United States but changed her mind to pursue her passion for singing. She applied to YG Entertainment, was accepted as a trainee in 2010 and trained for six years.

During her time as a trainee, Jennie gained attention through her collaborations with YG Entertainment artists. She appeared in the music video of G-Dragon's "That XX" and contributed to songs such as Lee His "Scarecrow", Seungri's "GG Be" and the Korean version of G-Dragon's "Black".

Jennie's international experiences and dedication made her an indispensable member of "Blackpink" and a global star in the K-Pop world.

On August 8, 2016, Jennie debuted as a member of the four-member girl group BLACKPINK. The other three members of “Blackpink” are called Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa. The debut album “Square One” was a complete success: the singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah” topped both the Gaon Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Songs Chart.
